[rfn-l] Food Security and the Murray-Darling Basin

Dear Agri-fooders,

On behalf of the organising committee, I would like to invite you to consider presenting a paper at a three day conference, Food Security and the Murray-Darling Basin: Prospects, Opportunities and Challenges that the  Institute for Land, Water and Society, Charles Sturt University, is holding November 19 - 21 in Albury, NSW.

As far as we know this will be the first major conference to focus on food security in a regional Australia context. We intend for the conference to provide insights that may contribute to future policy decisions. The Murray-Darling Basin produces one third of Australia's food production and it is therefore an important focus for a conference on food security.

Themes for the three days are:

·         Day 1: Feeding the world. Global food security and the MDB with keynote speakers Dr Nick Austin, CEO, Australian Centre for International Research and A/Prof Jane Dixon, National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, ANU

·         Day 2: Climate change and food security in the MDB, with keynote speaker Dr Mark Howden, Chief Research Scientist, CSIRO Ecosystem Sciences and

·         Day 3: Alternative food futures in the MDB with keynote speaker Prof Mark Lawrence, Professor in Public Health Nutrition, Deakin University.

The deadline for abstract submissions is August 29. We invite you to submit an abstract under one of the above three themes. Alternatively, if you do not wish to present a paper, we welcome your attendance as a participant.
