The Regional Food Network is hosting a panel to accompany the food film scheduled for the Spanish Film Festival organised by the Media Team, School of Arts and Social Sciences, Southern Cross University

Seven directors from seven different countries with seven different cultures and points of view capture the conditions and cultural diversity of popular produce markets in their individual countries. Each segment leads the viewer through the fascinating stories of the foods that eventually wind up on our tables.

This documentary screening will be followed by a panel with local food practioners and producers:

Kerry Gibson, Lismore Urban Agriculture
Lismore Urban Agriculture is focused on food security and community connection, through encouraging and supporting urban agriculture.  Their projects include a harvest redistribution project for vulnerable families (Stop The Rot); seasonal harvest celebrations (Citrus Picnic and Long Table Dinner); edible garden blitzes (currently building a food garden for a young disabled boy and his family); Seed and Harvest Swap (beginning 19 September); and a community wide survey (Grow Your Own) to research local food gardening trends which will inform new projects for LUA.  Lots more activities and events are planned - stay tuned...
Kerry's commitment to the importance of relocalising our food systems and food sovereignty was sharpened through her experiences in Swaziland, Africa where she worked for 10 years with local communities on development projects around food and water security, education, psycho-social support and income generation. She has been an active member of permaculture and sustainability groups and community gardens since returning to Australia in 2011 and founded LUA in 2014.

Pam Brook, Brookfields and Northern Rivers Food
Pam Brook is co-founder of Brookfarm, which she established with her husband Martin Brook in 1999. Brookfarm was the Telstra Business of the Year in 2007 and is Australia's leading producer of gourmet macadamia products known for its Macadamia Mueslis, Walkabout Mixes, etc. From humble beginnings at the Bangalow markets, Brookfarm is now a vibrant food manufacture company with a team of 35 and growing. Brookfarm's products are sold throughout Australia and exported to 12 countries including the USA & Europe. Customers include Domestic & International airlines. Born in Melbourne, Pam has a Bachelor of Dental Science at Melbourne University and MBA at Southern Cross University. She has extensive experience in product & brand development, and sustainable business management. She is a great believer in a nutritionally balanced diet and a healthy sustainable food chain. She has a passion for the growth and development of the regional food industry and is the Chair of Northern Rivers Food.

Dave Roby, Tweed Richmond Organic Producers Organisation (TROPO)
Dave Roby lives in Alstonville, where he  grows avocados, bush foods and vegetables. Dave has long been an active member of TROPO. Dave and Pauline have 21.5 hectares, of which only 4.8 are covered by certification. The remainder is bushland reserve. Dave's property is a popular destination for field trips and conference tours, as it is very scenic, and there are many organic principles and innovations on open display. TROPO, was established in 1989 as a grassroots local action group dedicated to fostering organic agriculture and gardening on the New South Wales North Coast. Dave sells his produce at the Lismore Organic Market, the first certified organic market in Australia which has been running since 1999.

Justin Telfer, Byron Bay Cheese, Produce Markets
Justin Telfer is a cheesemaker and a member of the Australian Farmers' Market Association. Justin was awarded the Excellence in Agriculture Award at the Sydney Easter Royal Show and his brand Bangalow Cheese was also awarded the Champion Fancy Cheese crown at the Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Produce Show. Justin has been involved in the Lismore Produce Markets and Byron and Bangalow Farmers Markets.
